Now, this hiking business is not going to be easy all the time, not every mile will be a piece of cake! So, walking up and down the Camino de Santiago ... why are we doing all this? Even voluntarily! Well, at the end it is all about being happy, what else! As Audrey Hepburn put it - not Marcus Aurelius - "the most important thing is to enjoy our life - to be happy - it's all that matters." Obviously, as we know from our own experience it ́s not always that easy because even though "life is really simple, .. we insist on making it complicated" ( Confucius ).
Alice Roosevelt Longworth offers us a more practical approach to a happy life, as in the following: "I have a simple philosophy: Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it's itching". And the Dalai Lama confirms just that, saying "the purpose of our lives is to be happy" ... But how to get there, that ́s the eternal question! Jesus Christ can lead us the way as he said ..."ask and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.”
So, apparently it's our job to do something about our happiness, and as Goethe pointed out ... "Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen." It ́s about taking control, being free and taking our life into our very own hands...
Well then, let’s start with the Camino! Yes, that's the right place, far away from our office duties and everyday life, and don't forget "it is a rough road that leads to the height of greatness" ( Seneca ), come rain or come shine! And we will be out there together, making Camino friends, enjoying nature and all the other sights along the way, and simply having a lot of fun. It's about being positive ( again, Seneca: "I don't consider myself bald, I'm just taller than my hair" ), and also remembering that "a day without laughter is a day wasted" ( Charlie Chaplin )
Shall we give it a try? If so, let ́s just have a great time together and enjoy our walk-abouts on and along the Camino!
The camino experience – let’s go there!
